Getting to know Bruny Island
A small island off a big island off an even bigger island – that’s Bruny. But Bruny Island really isn’t all that small – it’s about 64 kilometres from Dennes Point on the northern tip to Cape Bruny Lighthouse in the south.

An island of contrasts
The landscapes change dramatically through the 64-kilometre length of the island. North Bruny is gentler and more rural, with sheltered beaches and rolling farmlands. On the other side of The Neck, a narrow isthmus that joins the two parts of the island, South Bruny has tall forests, high sea cliffs, surf beaches and wild, rugged coastlines.
The island has fewer than 1000 permanent residents but that number swells with shack owners and visitors on weekends and holiday times. The main settlements on the island are Adventure Bay, Alonnah and Lunawanna in the south and Dennes Point and Great Bay in the north.
Bruny Island lifestyle
Bruny residents, shack owners and visitors all love the many attractions of island life – beach and forest walks, swimming, kayaking, surfing, fishing, boating – as well as the appeals of the local produce, which includes oysters, honey, cheese, artisan bread, craft beer, farmhouse cider and the wines from Australia's southernmost vineyard.

Travelling to Bruny Island
SeaLink’s Bruny Island ferries make the 15 minute crossing between Kettering and Roberts Point every 20 minutes between 6:10 am and 7:00 pm. Kettering is about a 40-minute drive south of Hobart. Pay at the ticket booth in Kettering – your fare is for the two-way crossing so there’s no need to pay when leaving the island.
