Transport availability in Moonah

Several transportation options are available for travelling to and around Moonah, including bus, taxi, car, bike, and walking.

 

Public transport into the city takes about 24 minutes, passing through Moonah every 10 minutes Monday to Friday, every 20 minutes Saturdays, and every 30 minutes Sundays and public holidays. Nature and recreation spots in Moonah

St Aubyn Square Reserve is a beautiful open grass space in Moonah where children and adults alike can come and kick the football, learn to ride a bike, play on the play equipment or purchase one of the character homes surrounding this reserve and call it home.

 

The famous Hobart Intercity Cycleway runs straight through Moonah. Locals can access the bike path off Albert Road, Hopkins Street or the car park behind the Moonah shops on the eastern side.

 

“From the Cenotaph, the cycleway follows the Derwent River upstream, passing under the Tasman Bridge and close by the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. Further on, the playground at Cornelian Bay is just a short side trip away and an excellent spot for a snack or picnic. The cycleway then leaves the river edge and soon reaches New Town Rivulet, from where keen riders can continue on to MONA and Claremont.” Greater Hobart Trails.

 

Station Street Reserve is a little grass strip alongside the Cycleway where you can park and get your bikes out or set up morning tea or a picnic-style lunch at the undercover picnic tables before or after your ride.

 

Every Monday at 9:15 am, you can join the West Moonah Allsorts walking group at the West Moonah community house. This walk, run by Heart Foundation, is medium-paced and goes for 45-60 minutes.

Schools in Moonah

Situated within the suburb of Moonah are St Therese’s Catholic School and Bowden Road Primary School. Moonah Primary School is located just across the suburban border in Derwent Park. All three primary schools are co-educational and cater for Kindergarten to Year 6.

 

There are plenty of nearby high schools for you to choose from, including Hilliard Christian School (Kinder to Year 12 students), Hobart City High Schools (Newtown and Ogilvie campuses), and Sacred Heart College (Kinder to Year 10 students).

West Moonah offers a unique learning experience at Francis Flexible Learning Centre, providing alternative education for students in years 7 to 10.
