Buying your dream home in Southern Tasmania with Fall Real Estate is an exciting journey — but moving to a new region can also feel a little daunting. One of the best ways to settle in is to engage with the local community and immerse yourself in the unique Tasmanian lifestyle. Here’s how to make the transition smooth, enjoyable, and rewarding.
Join local clubs and groups

Tasmania is full of opportunities to meet new people and pursue your passions. From sports teams and outdoor adventure groups to arts, crafts and hobby clubs — there’s something for everyone.
If you enjoy sailing, the Derwent Sailing Squadron (based in Sandy Bay) offers a welcoming sailing community with safety and sea survival courses and private lessons.
For tennis fans — including those who love a bit of heritage — the Hobart Real Tennis Club (est. 1875) is the oldest real tennis club in Australia.
If you prefer land‑based sport or social running, there are multiple running clubs across Tasmania, with several based in Hobart.
From arts and craft to bushwalking, social support, environment, language or hobby groups, you can explore social media groups covering Hobart and surrounding Southern Tasmania.
To discover local clubs and groups across different areas, check out our Town and Suburb Profile Pages for a detailed guide to community opportunities in various regions.
In the image above, our Property Management crew swapped inspections for bowls on a Friday afternoon at Royal Hobart Bowling Club and let's just say some hidden talents were discovered!
At Fall, we understand the importance of feeling connected and belonging, and we want you to find that sense of home when you move to a suburb in southern Tasmania.
Participate in community events

Community events are at the heart of Tasmanian life. They’re a great way to meet locals, soak up the atmosphere, and discover the culture.
The Salamanca Market — held every Saturday in Hobart — is a landmark community event where you’ll find fresh produce, local art, crafts and live performances. It’s a great place to feel the vibe of the city and connect with locals.
Seasonal festivals, markets, galleries, and cultural events often pop up. Therefore, keeping an eye on local Facebook groups, Instagram pages, or community noticeboards is a great way to stay in the loop.
On our social media, we often share upcoming events and local happenings at Fall Real Estate, both to keep you connected to the community and to let you know when new properties become available.
In March 2026, we participated in A Day at the Park in Kingston. Our team had a great time chatting with so many friendly faces, enjoying the delicious food, and soaking up all the festivities.
With perfect weather and more than 3,000 locals and visitors, it was a great atmosphere for families. A big thank you to the organisers for putting together such a fun and vibrant community event. We loved being part of it and look forward to the next one! Follow us, and we will keep you posted!

We were also very encouraged on Saturday, 4 October 2025, at our first-ever Charity Gala supporting The Kids’ Cancer Project at the Crowne Plaza Hobart.
Thanks to the generosity of our guests, sponsors, and Fall team, $39,298 was raised on the night, with online donations bringing the total to $40,000 for The Kids’ Cancer Project.

Attend workshops and classes

Whether your interests lie in cooking, gardening, crafts, fitness or creative pursuits, Tasmania offers a variety of workshops, classes and meet‑ups that bring people together.
From beginner to advanced, hobbyist to serious. You might find pottery classes, arts & crafts groups, creative writing clubs, gardening or horticulture workshops, or wellness and fitness classes.
For newcomers, these settings can be ideal for making friends, learning new skills, and discovering more about the local lifestyle and what southern Tasmania has to offer.
Engage with online communities

Online groups and forums remain a powerful way to meet people, learn about events, and stay up to date, even before you arrive.
Platforms like Facebook, Meetup, and local community‑group websites host groups for hiking, arts and crafts, sports, parenting, pets, volunteering, and more. Browsing these can help you find people with similar interests, often offering meet‑ups, informal gatherings, or announcements about classes and events.
For many newcomers, online communities are the first point of connection, and they can turn into real friendships and local networks once you live here.
